Precious Metal

Clay

What is precious metal clay (PMC)? The metal is refined into a powder and then mixed with a binder. The metals I use are silver and bronze. Don’t let the name metal clay fool you. When heated to a high temperature by torch or kiln, the binder burns away and you have solid metal. The silver used can be .999 fine silver, or 950 silver which is stronger and used for prices that will take a lot of abuse like a ring. Bronze comes in several different colors (red, golden, etc) and is fired differently than silver. It takes a two step firing, first to burn of the binder, then the second is fired in a chamber of coconut fiber to create an oxygen free zone.

The joy in using PMC is you can use molds, textures and carve your designs. Making it an artist’s creative dreams come true.

All the pieces you find here are handmade by me and may show some characteristics others may find as flaws, I just call it handmade.
